If successful, more eco-friendly Aldi's will be popping up across the UK 🤞

Aldi has launched a brand new eco concept store in Birmingham – and, if successful, this model might be rolled out across the UK.

But how does it differ from the “normal” Aldi experience? Let’s take a look.

Because we know many of you might have been holding your breath… the treasure trove that is the middle aisle remains. Thank you, Aldi gods. In fact, for the most part, this Aldi looks like any other, if you didn’t know this store uses less than half the energy of a traditional store.

There are tonnes of eco-friendly initiatives in-store, including a nuts and coffee refill station (the type you usually only find on boujee high streets); you can use your own container or grab one of the paper bags provided. This system not only helps to reduce packaging waste, but the prices are promised to be 5% cheaper than their pre-wrapped alternatives. Win, win.

Ever found yourself stood over the household bin deliberating whether something can be recycled or not? Join the club. At this Aldi, there’s a collection point where you dispose of those hard to recycle items (such as coffee pods, batteries and medicine packets) that aren’t collected by most local authorities. It's a supermarket first, and one to praise given the staggering amount of household waste that reaches landfills each week in the UK.

Equal thought has gone into the design of the building, which favours sustainable building materials (timber fibre insulation and recycled lighting, for instance) and uses solar power where possible. You can even recharge your electric vehicle while you sort your weekly shop. Hats off, Aldi. Fingers crossed there will be an eco-friendly store opening near you.
