UNION PIER — The return of the Art Attack tradition will fill Harbor Country with a whole lot of “All that is Art” over the weekend of April 29, April 30, and May 1.

Local Color Gallery owners Rita and Jennifer Cochran have been the during force behind the springtime gallery tour since year one. Rita said the 2022 version, the first since 2019, is one of the biggest ever.

“We’ve got film, we’ve got the visual arts, 2-D art, 3-D art, we have music, we have fashion, we have food, we have architecture, we have history, a new store in Three Oaks … we even have a flower-arranging demonstration,” Rita said.

New studios in Sawyer, Harbert and Three Oaks will make their debut during the weekend.

Rita said the 2020 Art Attack was canceled after brochures had been printed and many galleries and other venues were readying their events.

One of the many Art Attack traditions being renewed this year is a performance by the trio Homemade Jam at Local Color Gallery, 16187 Red Arrow Hwy., Union Pier. This year the band is scheduled to pay from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1.

“They’re very excited to be back,” Jennifer said.

Of the 39 scheduled Art Attack happenings, 19 are based in Three Oaks – something one of the village’s artists is quite fired up about.

Tom Pauly of A Drawing Room Gallery, 9 N. Elm St., and A Drawing Room Gallery, The Annex, 13 N. Elm St., said there was just one Three Oaks location participating in the 2019 Art Attack (13 were signed up for 2020 before that year was canceled due to COVID).

“We’re probably going to have 40, maybe 50 artists here, and it’s just going to be a wonderful, wonderful place,” he said.

“I think everybody is ready. Everybody’s had mega, super cabin fever and I think they are ready to go,” Rita said, noting that the April 28 Launch Party at the Acorn in Three Oaks (see schedule below for details) also will be a Benefit for Art Attack.

A list of 28th annual Harbor Country Art Attack events follows:

Following the film, Janet Davies will moderate a discussion with Allen Turner, former Chairman of The Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. All proceeds will go directly to Art Attack.
