ILOTU Cosmetics, a wholly Namibian cosmetic company, has launched its new hair and skincare products.

The essential oil-based product range consists of shampoos, conditioners, creams, oils and scrubs.

The company also offers gift items such as eco-notebook, bag and pen sets, reusable cork, coffee mugs and eco-friendly carrier bags.

Mareka Lilly Masule, the chief executive officer and founder at Ilotu Cosmetics, says their new products can be used by people who are keen on using safe organic products, as well as those with sensitive skins, and are for both men and women.

“I have generally been very keen on making organic products, especially since I have sensitive skin. I took what was once a DIY (do it yourself) routine for myself and made it accessible for public use. My passion for persons with medical conditions grew after losing a relative to skin cancer, which prompted me to focus on skin and hair disorders. These products are quite personal, as I'm very in touch with my overall appearance and believe everyone should make time for self-care. Self-care leads to longevity and many don't realise the need to pay attention to what we apply on our skin and how we take care of our bodies,” Masule says.

Masule, who started the business in 2017, says, “We have received so much assistance from big organisations to ensure we are well rounded to be able to compete against other big organic/natural brands. For us, the launch is a bold step statement that it is all possible if you believe and take the time to deepen your roots first and ensure you have your building blocks in place to be on a certain competitive scale in the beauty industry.”

She says being an entrepreneur means one functions differently from a normal person – the working hours are different, your approach to relationships/friendships is different and one's level of integrity is tested. Over the years, she says she has learnt that there is no shortcut when it comes to building a brand.

“Focus on why you started when you are in doubt. Remember that it's not always about getting money to start, it's about equipping yourself and tapping into the appropriate mindset. Serve with a humble heart, it's not always about how many people serve you but rather how many people you serve,” she says.

The products are available at The Local Merchant across Hilton Hotel on in Independence Avenue in Windhoek, or can be delivered.

Meanwhile, Ilotu Cosmetics is looking for regional ambassadors –people who want to make some extra cash by being representatives of the brand in their regions. More information is available on social media.
