At Santo Coffee Co. in Seattle’s Roosevelt neighborhood, every cup is poured and served with purpose.

“I want to support businesses that are part of the community that are trying to give back,” Jade Patterson, a regular customer, said. The coffee shop is co-owned by Sounders player Fredy Montero, his wife Alexis, and Mikhail and Jessica Ghyvoronsky.

Now, to give back to the community, the Monteros have created a new blend of coffee called El Corazón.

“For us this was a promise, a promise for us that we were going to continue to share Margo’s testimony,” Alexis said. The couple’s youngest daughter, Margo, was born with a heart defect.

“At five days old, she underwent heart surgery at Seattle Children’s Hospital,” Alexis said. The couple said they couldn’t imagine being anywhere else during that time.

“I couldn’t be more thankful and grateful for everything the nurses and doctors did for us and for our family and for her especially,” Fredy said. Margo spent two weeks in the hospital.

“The hardest thing for me was knowing that we have two more kids at home and they weren’t able to see her,” Fredy said. The artwork on the bag represents Margo and her three sisters.

“It is Margo’s hand which is on the bag and there are three flowers, you know, each flower represents Ruby, Vivian and Margo, our three daughters,” Fredy said.

In the background is Fredy’s letter to Margo while she was at Seattle Children’s.

“El Corazón came to our mind and I believe it was a good pick,” he said. All the proceeds from the coffee will benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital. You can purchase a bag by clicking here.

“We have this product that people buy already so why not make something special,” Alexis said. “I want to continue to continue to remember the miracle that God gave us and live that out every single day.”
